you know you wanna make a movie, but…

In this consolidating film industry, making a movie can feel impossible. Maybe you’re feeling held back because:

  • You’ve noodled on an idea but you're still waiting for permission to finally make the damn thing.
  • The lack of a “proper” budget makes creating a film feel out of reach, overwhelming and intangible.
  • You've made sketches, shorts, or commercials, but tackling something long-form feels like a huge leap.
  • You’re afraid of making something that won’t match your vision, so you stay in place rather than diving in.
  • You’re missing a supportive filmmaking community to lean on or collaborate with.
  • Making a movie requires you to put yourself out there — and that’s scary as hell!

Here’s the truth:

The only way forward is to greenlight yourself. With the right mindset and framework, you can leverage what you already have and make your movie.

Filmmaker Meghan Ross on microbudget mindset

"This workshop helped quell my fears about financing and making my first feature film and prepared me for the ups and downs of what's ahead.

GG is a rare gem in this often heartless industry of someone who says she's going to do something and then actually does it (like making a fantastic microbudget film). That extends to her consistent support of indie filmmakers (especially women!) and her unabashed sharing of what worked and what didn't from her own experiences.”

“I learned a ton about filmmaking and myself in the process. Love how GG pushes you to think about your existing resources and turn that into a film that will transform your career.

Highly recommend it!”

“This workshop approaches making a microbudget feature in a more nuanced way than your run of the mill course. Highly recommend if you're interested in making a microbudget feature but don't quite know how to start planning for it.

The knowledge and advice GG shares from her own experience is invaluable and encouraging. It helped me evaluate the options and resources I have in order to make my project a reality without breaking the bank.”

Tatiana Gomez

Director, Cinematographer

“GG is a powerhouse source for all things film. This course is an amazing opportunity to learn in detail her approach to making a microbudget movie from pre to post production.

Her instruction technique is thoughtful and accessible, covering a huge range of topics from rehearsing with actors, to the technical aspects, and managing your mental health.

An unexpected bonus was connecting with other filmmakers during the course. I also think all the knowledge of this course could be seamlessly applied to a macrobudget movie.”

Who’s Running this thing anyway?

I’m GG Hawkins. I left my career in ad sales six years ago to pursue filmmaking. Before greenlighting my first feature, I had made shorts, sketches, web series, and podcasts, most of which were self-funded on a shoestring budget. Nearing my mid-30s, I knew I wanted to take on something bigger and more ambitious, setting my sights on a feature.

Yet, even with representation, a few well-known labs under my belt, and a part-time job interviewing filmmakers as host of the No Film School podcast, I couldn’t find a clear path to a feature through traditional indie channels that wouldn’t take YEARS of fundraising. It wasn’t until my friend and two-time micro-budget director, Henry Lovner, casually suggested I “just make a movie” that I thought, hey, why not?

I needed that nudge to say yes to myself, and I’m grateful for it. Working with what I had, I reverse-engineered a story (check out the process in this video →) and completed my micro-budget feature. It was incredibly challenging but also the most rewarding, creatively fulfilling experience of my life.

I created the Master Your Microbudget Mindset mini-course to set you on the path to making your own film so you, too, can take control of your creative journey.
